Apple's High-End Market Share is High Indeed

Almost unnoticed over the past two years amongst the drumbeat of good news on the iPod, with a 70% market share, the iPhone, the leader in the smart phone category and iTunes, now the nation's largest music retailer, Apple's Mac computer line has grown to command an overwhelming market share: more than 60% of personal computers priced at $1,000 or more bear the Apple brand.

According to Fortune magazine, Apple's share of the high end market has climbed from less than 20% two years ago to 66% today. Mac's penetration is across both segments, desktops and notebooks.

"The computer for the rest of us" is beginning to change the definition of "the rest of us."
