Catch & Release: OK, Just This Once
I'm generally not enthusiastic about "catch & release" schemes, whether for immigration, general crime or the war on terror.
Every rule deserves an exception, however, and the attempted Somali piracy of an American ship seems a good choice. Regarding the fourth pirate, the only survivor among those who attempted to hijack the Alabama, who double-crossed the crew on their deal, who kidnapped Captain Phillips, well I say, "Let him go."
Presuming that the Bainbridge is at least 100 miles off shore and that there are no Somali ships or boats within at least 10 miles, sure, let him go. Feed him a good meal and show him the door. He can walk.
Or not.
This is not a matter for the FBI or some ADA in New York City. Terminal force was authorized, don't let it go to waste.
