Heart-warming Late Term Abortion Success

A new mother woman in Rustburg, Virginia successfully aborted her healthy newborn shortly after its natural full-term delivery at home Monday night. Local prosecutors have declined prosecution because the woman suffocated the baby while it was still connected, making the event an abortion rather than a homicide.

“In the state of Virginia as long as the umbilical cord is attached and the placenta is still in the mother, if the baby comes out alive the mother can do whatever she wants to with that baby to kill it,“ said Investigator Tracy Emerson. “She could shoot the baby, stab the baby. As long as it’s still attached to her in some form by umbilical cord or something it’s no crime in the state of Virginia."
Apparently, this happens. According to Lynchburg's The News & Advance
The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office and Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office worked unsuccessfully to get the law changed after another baby died in the county in a similar case. Emerson said they asked two delegates and one state senator to take the issue up in the General Assembly. He says the three lawmakers refused because they felt the issue was too close to the abortion issue.

Emerson said the woman knew she was pregnant and had received prenatal care. He said the baby was full-term, due Tuesday. The medical examiner says the baby was born healthy. An autopsy is being performed. The baby’s body will then be released to the family.

Just like a fingernail...

Although I do not believe a woman has the right to kill a child after it is born, just because it is still attached, I do believe in late term abortion. If a child never leaves the body to take a first breath, it has not had "the breath of life." It will never be aware that it ever existed. As with any death, it is not the dead that grieve, it is those left behind. Do you remember being your mother's womb? Leaving the womb? Your first breath? Your first day? I only give way to the breath of life being the a stopping point against abortion because "He breathed into Adam and he became a living soul."

I'm inclined to agree with anonymous.

As most people don't recall anything before 4 years of age, I propose that abortion ought to be expanded to include young children.

I recall the financial hardship that a friend of mine endured after her 2 year old toddler needed some hospitalization. If she had a safe and available option to terminate the child (it was on a respirator so it wasn't really breathing at the time), she would have saved a considerable amount of money and grief.

If more people were as humane Anonymous and I were, the world would be a much different place.
