The New York Times: Self-Perception Approaching Reality
The New York Times is a smaller newspaper today.
The publisher of The NYT this morning reduced the size of the pages printed in the paper edition, thereby reflecting the paper's reduced stature amongst current readers and those who once were.
It may also be somewhat prophetic, given the intentsity with which Rupert Murdoch promises to increase the competitive stance of The Wall Street Journal, the nation's second largest paper in terms of circulation.
No word yet whether NPR will reduce signal amplitude or MSNBC will shrink the size of its screen.
One unstated but possible reason: A smaller paper should reduce the opportunities for errors.
